Finances
Plan’s income:
- Plan raised US$ 595,000,000 for the year ending 30 June 2007, an increase of 10% on the year before
- 72% came from child sponsorship
- In 2007, 22% of Plan’s income came from grants
- Other income sources include project sponsorship, appeals, bequests, gifts sales and investment income
Plan’s expenditure:
- Plan spent US$ 572,000,000 for the year ending 30 June 2007. On a like for like basis, excluding last year’s one-off utilisation of reserves to help deliver programs faster, expenditure increased by 6%.
- 81% of total expenditure was on programs; 19% on fundraising and operating costs. Program expenditure includes:
- Africa – US$ 188,000,000 - Asia – US$ 115,000,000 - Central and South America – US$ 103,000,000

Programs
In 2007, Plan:
- built 200 health centres and trained 24,801 professional health workers and 67,443 community workers and birth attendants in almost 9,000 communities worldwide. We also built or upgraded 10,592 water points and built 124,906 toilets, to support our work with communities on child health and reducing infant mortality.
- trained 80,799 teachers and volunteer teachers and built or rehabilitated 7,533 schools in 3,158 communities. We also worked with local communities to train 14,099 community members in school management to ensure the long-term sustainability of our education and development work.
- worked with communities and partners to train 109,246 farmers in sustainable farming techniques and provided vocational and business training for 48,951 people globally.
- trained 51,042 child protection workers, volunteers and over 16,000 staff of partner organisations in international child protection standards and disaster risk reduction.
- worked with 1,281 partners at local and national level, 177 partners at international level and initiated 83 partnerships with UN agencies.
