A fusion of music and football, for African children
Dakar, Senegal March 1st, 2006

A friendly football match between the national teams of Senegal and Norway has helped raise awareness about the lives of children in Africa.

The footballers were joined by an international line up of musicians including Youssou N’dour, Alpha Blondy, Angelique Kidjo, a-ha and Lauryn Hill, at the stadium Leopold Sedar Senghor on March 1st.

“While it’s an opportunity for people to have fun, we hope that it will also encourage people in Senegal and Norway to think about the issues affecting children in Africa everyday,” commented Mamadou Kante, country director of Plan Senegal.

Sandro Parmeggiani, National Director of Plan Norway, added “When people see how lives in the developed and developing world are linked, we can begin to work together to make lasting changes in children's lives.”

Plan is an international child-centred humanitarian organisation working with children, their families and communities in 46 developing countries. Founded over 60 years ago, Plan has no religious, political or governmental affiliation.
