Growing up healthy:

Ensuring children’s survival, protection and healthy development

In Brazil, approximately 38 of every 1,000 children will die before the age of five.  Many child deaths are caused by preventable or treatable diseases like malaria. Yet many families in remotes areas do not have access to the health care needed to combat such illnesses.

As part of our health program here, communities distributed mosquito nets to 7,160 families to help prevent infection with malaria.  They also raised awareness among parents of other prevention techniques.

In addition, we supported 73 sick children of families who live in remote areas of where health care was neither available nor affordable.  As Sandra Maria da Costa said:

“Our community is very happy with this health care project. My son was cured.”
