Campaign of Paternity is back in Pernambuco
To guarantee the right to paternity for all adolescents and children who live in Pernambuco (Brazil), was published on September 20th the campaign "Be a Good Dad. Recognize". The campaign provided mechanisms for fathers to recognize their children born out of wedlock and it’s developed in partnership between Plan, UNICEF, the Justice Tribunal, the Public Ministry and local NGOs.
This year the campaign will be all over the State, therefore the father who wishes, spontaneously, recognize his children must be present between October 1st to 12th at the Judiciary District of your city or register offices. Where there is no one of two organs the service will be at Federal schools. There are involved 297 civil register offices, 148 Judiciary Districts and 1150 Federal schools.
The parents must take their identity card and the child’s birth license. If the adolescent is over 18, also must be present with the parents. Normally it is a bureaucratic procedure that takes significant time and costs US$ 47. During the campaign will be quick and free. Judges and promoters will be volunteers.
Plan, that also financed part of the resources of the advertising materials, is mobilizing people, in the areas where it acts, in Jaboatão of the Guararapes and Cabo de Santo Agostinho. Plan collaborators are visiting schools, associations and communities distributing material advertising executives with information about places and schedules of attendance. Also, they will be giving support, voluntarily, during all the campaign, to make the registers of recognition of paternity in the register offices, Forums and Federal schools of Jaboatão and Cabo.
The lack of a father in the child’s records causes both psychological and financial problems for the child and puts the child in a precarious situation if there is a split between the parents or if something happens to the mother. Seven percent of the children in Pernambuco do have not been recognized by their fathers.
