Plan Dominican Republic is a humanitarian, child centered development organization without religion, political or governmental affiliation.
Our History
Plan was founded in Spain in 1937, and is one of the world´s largest child centred community organisations. Plan works with children, their families and communities in over 45 countries around the world.
Our vision and mission
Our vision is of a world in which all children realise their full potential in societies which respect people´s rights and dignity.
Our mission is to improve the quality of life for children, by building skills, resources and structures to give children an equal chance to develop into healthy, educated and responsible adults.
Plan in the Dominican Republic
Plan Dominican Republic began working with poor communities in urban neighborhoods in Herrera, Santo Domingo in 1987.
We work in five program areas in Azua, San Juan, Barahona, Elías Piña and Pedernales with a Country Office in Santo Domingo. We are committed to help people through a variety of development programs thanks to the generous support of our sponsors and donors. These programs are carried out, implemented and evaluated in participation with children, young people and adults to benefit the quality of their life, following our child-centred community development approach. We work directly with over 30,000 sponsored children, benefitting their families and communities.
In consultation with girls, boys, their families and adults we devise a community development plan for the long-term sustainability of the programs and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals based on the participation of the whole community.
Plan has consultative status with UNICEF and UNESCO.
Children are at the heart of everything we do.
