Alliance for Better Rural Education
Plan Dominican Republic and Fe y Alegría Dominican Republic have drawn up a cooperation agreement aimed at promoting rural education in the country’s south west and frontier regions.
The project’s main objective is to develop an educational intervention model aimed at rural communities consisting of vocational education for high school students with an emphasis on communities of Haitian origin, based on participation.
This educational model involves projects for young people in the most vulnerable communities and will strengthen local capacity to liaise and collaborate with the Ministry of Education, INFOTEP, local universities and other institutions well into the future. The pilot projects will soon start in La Jagua in San Juan de la Maguana and Bahoruco in Barahona.
Plan Dominican Republic and Fe y Alegría started working together in 2006 to achieve improvements in the educational system through municipal education strategies which were developed in the province of Elias Piña.
