Baking the perfect recipe for microfinance
Since the microfinance training started in the community of Los Toros, other things started to change too.
A group of women organized under the name of Development for Progress began a small business selling coconut cookies, cakes and other pastries to the inhabitants of their community.
The precarious situation in which they traded meant that they could not make most of the situation. They were using a clay oven and only a few tin sheets, which meant that they could not sell on a larger scale.
They asked Plan staff to take some photos of their conditions and put the pictures on a web site that promoted the development of the community of Los Toros, hoping to raise some funds. The idea worked. They were approached by an international organization channeling and sourcing funds for small community projects.
They are now getting quotes for an industrial oven that will guarantee more production, better hygiene and more protection from the open fire. This group is now able to expand their business and produce top quality products.
