 | Welcome to Plan EcuadorEcuador is located on the equator and has a diverse climate – from lush jungle to snow-capped mountains. Much of the population is located in remote areas, widely dispersed and not easily reached due to insufficient transportation and infrastructure. Approximately 65 per cent of Ecuadorians live in poverty. Last year, many families were hit particularly hard by unemployment, the dollarisation of the Ecuadorian currency, disputes over land rights and other economic problems. There was a noticeable upturn in crime and violence in some areas as a result. In this difficult context, we continued to work with some of the poorest families in Ecuador, making a difference in the lives of 5,000 children within their communities.
