Empowering children and communities to find lasting solutions to poverty
Approximately 20 per cent of the Honduran population live in extreme poverty, which means those families can’t buy enough food to feed their children.
About Honduras Honduras is the second largest country in Central America, located in the heart of the region. Honduras is ranked as the third poorest country of Latin America. The Honduran economy depends on the production and sale of agricultural, forestry and marine products. However, deforestation is advancing so rapidly that it is estimated that Honduras could be left without trees in 20 years time.
In Honduran households, members of the extended family, including grandparents, cousins and other relatives, often live in the same house. However, people in rural areas have begun to move to the cities in search of a better standard of living, and this is changing the traditional family structure. Domestic violence and alcoholism are the cause of many social problems.
