Growing up healthy

Ensuring children’s survival, protection and healthy development

Many of the communities with whom we work have inadequate health facilities, meaning that many childhood (and adult) diseases are left untreated.

Elsa first began as a community health volunteer five years ago. In that time she, along with many other Plan-trained community health volunteers, has learned about treating diarrhoea, respiratory infections, and a variety of other ailments, many of which can be fatal if untreated.

Community health volunteers like Elsa also tend to pregnant women before and after birth. In cases where there are serious health risks, they will refer these women to health clinics.

This past year alone, Plan has trained more than 480 community health volunteers.
