Improving children’s welfare by increasing family income and food security

Wilfredo Tercero’s family was one of 320 families to join the Families Working Together Towards Food Security Project in Villa Carlos Fonseca, an area that lies within one of Nicaragua’s driest zones. The families have learned how to select appropriate land for different crops and how to use natural pest controls to preserve the land.

While giving Plan staff a tour, Wilfredo, a local resident of the region, was clearly pleased with what he has achieved:

“This is the second harvest this year. These seeds here are the offspring of the seed I obtained through the project and just look at the quality of the plants!”
