Building secure, safe and healthy environments for children

During the past year, Plan has been working with four communities to build much-needed irrigation systems to improve harvests and incomes, and prevent malnutrition, particularly among children.

Community members played an integral part in the construction of these large irrigation systems and were clearly thrilled with the results. As one committee member, Pedro Juárez Sicos, put it:

“This project will help us to have more products such as vegetables and pasture for our cattle. Now I can irrigate my chacra (small farm). Then I will plant mahuay potato and vegetables. With this, my family and children could have better food.”
