Growing Up Healthy

Ensuring children’s survival, protection and healthy development

Illness and mortality rates from preventable diseases are high among children from families living in poverty. Parents’ illiteracy and the lack of access to health and emergency medical services prevent them from recognising health problems and taking immediate actions. Basic health care is also inadequate, with limited funding and poorly trained staff.

Plan has been working with communities to organise local health committees. Through these, communities learn to manage their own health care, improve their access to health information and emergency medical services, and improve the overall quality of their local health services. Plan has worked to establish and train more than 90 committees that will help ensure the long-term sustainability of health care and improve children’s health for years to come.
