Quick facts about Cambodia:
- almost 80% of people are farmers living in rural areas
- production is limited to the reliance on rain fed agriculture
- average life expectancy is 56 years
- levels of health care and infrastructure are poor
- the education system (completely dismantled during the Khmer rouge regime) is inadequate, with not enough schools, educated teachers or school materials.
After undertaking a poverty analysis Plan set up the first program unit in Siem Reap in October 2002, to support people in getting access to basic rights.
Our ongoing programs in Cambodia help children and their families in some of the poorest communities to significantly improve their lives. Our long-term aim is to reach the day when our prescence is no longer required.
