Civil registration campaign in a new phase

After 21 months and 10 million registrations, the civil registration campaign is now in the second phase, starting from January 2006 to 2007.

Over this period, Plan will focus on building institutional capacity within the Ministry of Interior, as well as continue regular training and support to officials, volunteers and other organisations taking part in the project.

During the coming year, a study on computerisation of the civil registration system will be conducted, to make recording, tracking, and retrieving data more efficient. Currently all information is recorded only in registration books.

Plan also aim to tackle the challenge of the mobile registration in reaching the rest of the population.

Our effort in this phase will include continuing on raising public awareness about children’s issues and birth registration.

Additionally, our priority will be building partnerships with other national and international organisations, in an attempt to make birth registration part of their regular activities.
