Helping children, youth and adults learn and develop life skills

We began working in a new area last year: Hatibandha. Here, communities identified tutoring and early childhood education as the two education priorities.

In response to this, 22 parenting centres in two villages were opened, where over 560 mothers have been taught about child rights, childhood care and development, health and nutrition. Thirty volunteer tutors selected by the community were trained to run these centres.

Forty of these mothers then went on to run 10 local early childhood stimulation centres, called Shishu Bikash Kendra.  More than 100 children were enrolled.

One mother, Ratna Rani, commented:

“Children at the centres are cleaner and play and learn together joyfully.”
