Learning
Helping children, youth and adults learn and develop life skills
Over the past 12 months, Plan has concentrated on teaching methods and teacher training in order to try and improve the quality of schooling available to children. The concepts of child participation and child-friendly and experience-based learning have been introduced to teachers and educational administrators working in the communities where we work.
The trainers are themselves rural primary school teachers, who are then encouraged to go back to their communities to train their peers. The new methods were well-received by children and the teachers. Teachers are now willing to test and accept these innovations, as explained by Di Caixia:
“I took part in Plan’s training for primary school teachers. Now, my class is active and the students’ enthusiasm for learning is increasing.”
We also supported those children most likely to drop out of school, most of whom were girls, to gain an education. At the same time, we helped communities to build 20 schools and equip even more.
