Habitat

Building secure, safe and healthy environments for children

One of the environmental problems facing Indonesians in rural areas is a shortage of fertile land. Sometimes, farmers cut down large sections of forests to cultivate more crops. As a result, deforestation has become a major problem.

Over the past two years, communities in Bima have planted trees and improved marginal land to reverse this trend. Now, much soil in this region is more fertile and rice and peanut yields have increased.

Community Gardening
“It’s amazing to know how we can protect our crops from insects. And now that we know how to make organic fertiliser we can save our money by buying the chemical fertiliser”

Working together brings much more than clean water

For years the families in a remote rural village in Indonesia found difficulties in getting clean water. As a result, water-borne diseases were prevalent in the area. Thanks to hard work, commitment and support from Plan, they can now bathe daily, and feel empowered to work together on other community projects
