Child club helps change Nepalese community

An active member of Navajoyti Sautha Child Club, Yadav tells us proudly what the group has achieved in his community:
Navajoyti Sautha Child club was set up in 2002 to enhance children’s capabilities. Based in Morang, the club organizes football and cricket tournaments, quizes, poems and drawing competitions. Aided by Plan and Help Nepal (a local NGO), the club members participate in writing and facilitation skills training.
Children, our members, have shown they can help society to change. They organise cultural programs, and awareness programs on immunization and sanitation. A discussion program on our child-centred approach to community development ran last year, and the club even provided a scholarship to one student. We receive a positive response from the community. A daily community-reading centre for children and villagers has been set up and the local school provides a room for activities. Children are able to develop speaking skills through the club; reading and writing is encouraged.
The club is registered with the District Child Welfare Committee, a government body that prioritises children's issues. Now there's a common forum to interact and discuss child rights. The child club is going from strength to strength. Now we're planning to raise funds to help run the club smoothly, and establish a model child club in the district.
