Habitat

Building secure, safe and healthy environments for children

On the island of Anda, fish stocks and other marine resources have been depleted over the past decade as a result of illegal methods of fishing, the destruction of coral reefs, sea-grass and mangrove areas and pollution.

To reverse this trend, Plan worked with the local government, schools and a partner organisation to conduct awareness training and organise communities to manage and protect their coastal and marine resources effectively. Among the various activities were environmental education, participation in the yearly International Coastal Clean-up, a waste recycling contest and training in resource management and mangrove re-vegetation.
