Indonesia - tsunami update
Updated December 2005

Whilst communities we usually work in weren't hit by the tsunami in December, we offered our expertise and help to rebuild and provide support to survivors in affected areas.

Plan is working with over 250,000 people on its recovery program in 200 villages and displaced persons camps in Aceh province. Program priorities include:

  • Health – training health providers and revitalizing community health posts
  • Psychosocial support – running trauma reduction activities in schools and care centres
  • Education – rebuilding schools and supplying school equipment
  • Habitat – construction of 500 houses; providing clean water and sanitation in camps
  • Livelihood – helping fishing and farming communities to rebuild their lives
  • Child Rights – promoting child rights and establishing a child helpline
