Plan is working with some 150,000 people in Hambantota district.

- Health – working with the Ministry of Health to improve child care and nutrition
- Psychosocial support – Plan-funded books have reached some 1 million children
- Education – constructing nine new schools and repairing and equipping others
- Habitat – building the Yayawatta housing settlement of 200 new homes
- Livelihood – providing skills training, job placement and microfinance
- Child Rights - supporting a video production about the tsunami made by children
