My feelings as a young journalist

To celebrate the 1st anniversary of Huong Thuy District's Young Media Club, Nguyen has written about being a member.

I am very lucky to be one of the members of Young Media Club. During the past year, I have worked very closely with twenty other Young Journalists in the Club and have learned much more about media communications.

Children offer us a unique view of the World

Being a Club member means I can improve my writing skills by regularly writing articles and can also practice organising and facilitating club meetings. Most important, I have more friends with whom I can share my thoughts.

During my time at the Young Media Club I have been on field trips and witnessed children living in difficult circumstances, which has made me more determined to help them through my skills as a young journalist. Apart from the writing skills training, the Club has also helped me to improve my speaking and communication skills.

To me, being a young journalist means I can use all my journalistic skills to help people understand more about the issues that affect children in Vietnam today.

I wish to thank the Huong Thuy authorities and Plan Vietnam for creating the Club as a healthy playground, and an open forum for children especially the ones in Huong Thuy Commune, whose voices can now be heard.

Three girls, Keyla 15, Ana Claudia 16 and Simone 16, are making their mark at the Fourth International Summit on Media for Children and Adolescents in Rio, Brazil this week.  They are representing Plan's child media project in a community called Pernambuco, near Recife in eastern Brazil.
