Working towards a brighter future
Plan Vietnam, together with Reddy's Laboratories Ltd, have started a Livelihood Advancement Business School (LABS) to provide unemployed youth from poor backgrounds access to new economy jobs. The centre in Hanoi is the first LABS centre to be set up outside India.
In March this year, a team of three from LABS helped to set up a training centre in Vietnam. A labour market survey was conducted to identify the courses that will make youths more employable, and entry-level job requirements across government, NGO and business sectors were researched.
As a result, information technology-enabled services, hospitality, customer relations and sales courses are being offered, whilst basic computer literacy, spoken English and life skills are taught across the sectors. Next, six roadshows were run in poor neighbourhoods from which 124 students were identified for training.
LABS aims to establish a strong network amongst the students, with mentoring by the faculty and industry professionals helping the students believe that they can make a difference. An interactive teaching style helps prepare a confident, assertive, and job-ready workforce of individuals.
