A child speaks out in a forum

To mark the Global Campaign Education’s Action Week in April 2004, Plan Vietnam staff worked with local authorities and children to organise Education Forums at local schools in areas where Plan works.

Children’s groups from local primary and junior secondary schools represented their local peers in the Forums. They worked together to find out why other children leave school at an early age, and suggested ways to prevent this happening in the future. The children also gathered information on education problems, obstacles that their schools faces as well as family issues that affect education. The children presented their findings to large audiences at Forums through pictures, articles, songs and performance.

Overall the children felt the activities provided them with a unique opportunity to understand more about the education situation in their areas. It was also enabled children to present their messsages about education to the relevant local authorities and government departments for education, and increase awareness and support from local communities.
