Building relationships
Creating opportunities for children to participate in community development
In rural areas, women do much of the agricultural work and most of the household work, yet they have very little input into community decisions that affect their lives and the lives of their children. To ensure that they are included in our projects and community decision-making, a number of workshops were organised for husband-wife teams. Approximately 290 people discussed the importance of equal opportunities regardless of gender and developed plans to bring positive change in their communities.
One participant, Luan Toska, commented after a session:
“I participated together with my wife. It was very interesting to discuss different problems concerning the family. Everything we have belongs to both of us: our house, our children and our land. Things should be done together to help each other. I think this training should be followed by others because it changed our mentality.”
