Growing up healthy

Ensuring children’s survival, protection and healthy development

The high rate of infectious diseases affecting children in rural areas, especially parasite infections, remains a major concern for Albanian communities. The low quality of, and poor accessibility to, health services means many children don’t receive proper medical care.

Last year, we worked with 40 communities to improve access to health care. We organised training sessions for 130 professional health workers.  This enabled them not only to better treat children but also to educate entire families about health and hygiene issues, such as dealing with infectious disease and how best to identify and deal with contaminated food and water.

Growing up healthy: my knowledge, my health
Plan Albania is working to provide basic health facilities such as health clinics, trained medical professionals, and most importantly to provide the knowledge and understanding needed for children to grow up healthy

One child can make a difference
Plan raises awareness of hygiene issues by giving children the information they need to change their own habits, and inspiring them to share that knowledge with their friends and families
