Helping children, youth and adults learn and develop life skills
Many schools in our programme areas require support to improve school facilities. According to the teachers, learning activities are adversely affected by the lack of toilets and the poor condition of roofs, windows and walls. Some schools did not have adequate furniture, such as benches and desks, to allow for a good learning environment.
More than 1,400 children benefited from a project that involved renovating facilities in five schools. In addition, 11 schools benefited from 500 new benches. As one school director put it:
“Our children no longer have to worry about two pupils to a desk. Not only the children but even the teachers can feel the change the environment brings in the learning process. Children are more active and can concentrate.”
And Ermal, a student in grade six, explained the difference it made:
“I now like to attend classes. Before, we had to hurry into our classroom and find a place to sit but now everybody’s got their own new desk.”
