Habitat

Building secure, safe and healthy environments for children

Nearly 20 per cent of the families in our program areas had no electricity when we first began developing projects with their communities. Instead of electric lighting, they used candles and gas lamps inside their homes, which often led to accidents and made homes unsafe for children.

We therefore supported a project to connect the houses of 6,900 families to electrical supplies. This not only helped improve the living conditions of the families and created a safe environment inside and outside the homes, it also helped children enormously with their homework.  The quality of work from many students has improved dramatically.
