Based on the saying “Together we can make a difference!” the “Be a Part of It” award is created by Plan Benin to encourage and recognize the outstanding contributions being
made by individuals, organizations, and governmental institutions to create a world fit for children.
The objective of the "Be a Part of It" award is to assist as many children as possible, build relationships and partnerships, build public awareness and promote child centered community development.
The contest contains several categories, such as: community members (children and adults), artists, journalists, community organizations/groups, non governmental organizations, governmental departments… etc. There are three trophies in each category, with the 1st place winner being given the opportunity to benefit from a financial award to be invested in a project that directly benefits disadvantaged children. The financial awards go up to $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for organizations.

This year a total of 203 applications were reviewed by a jury of notable persons. The 18 winners were those who have most contributed to the well-being of children, and they were given a Plan “Be A part of It” trophy, during a public ceremony.
Associated with the Day of the African Child (June 16th), Plan Benin organized a lively public ceremony to present awards to the winners of the “Be A Part of It” 2004 competition. The audience and participants made of international and local NGOs, political authorities, civil society leaders, community members and authorities and the large public, were entertained with a variety of live musical performances from Benin artists during the evening, including a talented children’s cultural group from a Plan’s partner rural community.
