Over 600 Children Seen and Heard in Cameroon

During the celebration Day of the African Child, Plan was privileged to receive for the second year consecutive, 180 junior parliamentarians from all the ten provinces of the country. They visited Plan’s office on a special day termed ‘Plan Cameroon Day’.
This day given to Plan by the government is as a result of its tremendous work towards improving children’s lives in the country. A representative of the government lauded Plan’s efforts saying: “I am satisfied with its performance, and hope it continues to foster the rights of the child”.
Children participated in several activities such as sketches, talks, and spend time with Plan staff to know more about the organisation. This day was under the patronage of the ministers of Social Affairs and Youth Affairs. It also saw the cutting of the tenth anniversary cake marking the existence of children parliament in Cameroon.

The celebration was also in rural communities where Plan works. Children from seven to 18 years old marched in Akonolinga under the theme ‘Child participation’. The children wearing white T-shirts with the theme of the day displayed numerous banners and placards carrying messages on the right to registration at birth, nationality, education, health, protection…. to participation.
The celebration was punctuated with songs, dances and presentation of children handicrafts. Over 300 guests among which, members of government and civil society organizations, attended the celebration.
