10,000 mosquito nets to roll back malaria in Cameroon

In Cameroon, official figures show that annually, malaria accounts for 30 and 35% of deaths; about 40% of them being children under five years of age.

On April 25 Plan sensitized the population on the dangers of malaria in the centre province during an open door event in Akonolinga. Children expressed themselves through poems, sketches and songs to denounce the high prevalence of the disease.

10,000 long-lasting mosquito nets were distributed to children and adults, mostly pregnant women, to help tackle malaria which remains the biggest killer of African children.

The objective of the malaria project in Akonolinga is to contribute to the reduction of mortality related to this disease. Currently over 1,100,000 people are benefiting from this project implemented by Plan. 241, 000 mosquito bed nets have been distributed in the 12 health districts of Cameroon.
