Building secure, safe and healthy environments for children
During the dry season, parts of Cameroon become so dry that many people lack clean drinking water. In order to reduce the level of waterborne diseases and increase access to water, Plan this year provided drinking water through 13 new wells, two gravity-water systems for mountainous areas and two spring-protection initiatives.
The projects benefited about 6,000 community members. Several members of each community where a water project was undertaken were trained to maintain the water systems. As the chairperson of one water-management committee put it:
“We shall make good use of the knowledge acquired during training and ensure good management of our water system.”
