When women have the opportunity, they can move mountains. The Komofegue group was created in 1996 when Plan Cameroon started collaborating with the community. The aim was to support families in their farming activities. The initiative helped women increase their family income through income generating projects. Bernadette, the president, explains: “We assist each other in the farming and group marketing. We gained a lot from trainings and materials provided by Plan”.

Financial sustainability
The group has bank accounts in a post office and with an international institution. The women of Nlomakeng seem to have built confidence in their ability to improve the lives of their children, families and community. The president confirms: “We contributed 200,000 CFA francs (US$333) for an electricity project in the village. Some members have helped their husband construct better houses. Our group also supported the school project with the sum of 50,000 francs CFA (US$83)".

More skills for more efficiency
The women’s group received training on various health issues to increase their knowledge on preventable children’s diseases (malaria, diarrhea). Women also participated in capacity building workshops in management to improve their contribution to the community’s development.

Presently, the women’s group is building a storage place for the cereals. They are excited by the new opportunities and challenges that lie ahead and know that together, they can overcome many obstacles that, before, seemed insurmountable.
