For long, children of Bamessing, a community located 40km in the north of Bamenda, relied heavily on community animators to write their communications.

But the introduction of the new sponsorship communication package by Plan, coupled with the involvement of the village development committee, helped to reverse the trend. Today, children personally write their letters.

For the past year, Plan Cameroon has been providing training on letter writing to both community animators and children. As a result of this step, children now understand the need to write and participate happily in the process. Their tone can be felt in the letters. In addition, the community animators’ club saw an increase in its membership. Today, at least 2 animators follow up the activities of children forums.

Lydie, a girl from the children forum says: « Before, I didn’t know how to write. I was ashamed. But the animator taught us how to write a good letter alone. Now I am happy to do it by myself and I also help my friends to do so”
