Welcome to Plan Guinea
Plan works with communities and partner organisations to build a better future, following the war that ended in 2001.
Rural families usually rely on traditional methods of farming. Depending on the village group, farm work may be done either individually (by a family) or collectively (several families). Important cash crops include: rice, coffee, cacao, fruits, palm oil, peanuts and cola nuts. Crops grown for home use include: rice, millet, cassava, yams, corn, fruits and vegetables.
Family life and structure are very important in Guinea. The basic family unit may consist of a man with several wives living in the same compound or village, and may include extended family, consisting of aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, brothers and sisters.
