Habitat

Building secure, safe and healthy environments for children

The inadequate supply of clean, safe water is a serious problem in Mali, a hot, dry country that suffers recurring droughts.

As part of our programs to ensure communities have access to clean water, Plan, along with community water committees, oversaw the construction of innovative solar water pumping systems in four communities.  One of the main objectives of the program is to increase access to safe, clean drinking water within 500 metres of households. The new pumps will benefit more than 800 children and their families in the four villages.

The Impact of Mali's Rainy Season
The rainy season in Mali provides both blessings and challenges to the communities in the Plan program area, according to Plan staff member A Nene Sow Thiam.
