Plan Mali meets with the President

Plan Mali's Country Director Supriyanto, a UNICEF representative and the Malian Coalition for Child Rights (COSMADE) met with his Excellency Amadou Toumany Toure, President of the Republic of Mali on 20 November 2007. The objective was to present the recommendations that the Child Rights committee had made during the workshop organised in Bamako on 7 October on the implementation of the Right of the Child in Mali.

Although children continue to face various problems that prevent them from realising their rights and needs, the right for child protection, namely Female Genitalia Cutting, has been chosen by the children and child organizations as the most urgent issue that the government has to deal with. The report mentions that there is no law against excition in Mali.

At the end of the meeting, the President warmly thanked the delegates for their great commitment to improve the welfare of Malian children, particularly in the areas of child protection. He also ensured that he would give the necessary directives to the respective government offices.
