Health care training helps to build community responsibility

Plan Niger’s philosophy is that children’s health is everybody’s responsibility, not just the children’s parents, but it is also the responsbility of their neighbours, the community leaders, school teachers, midwives and, of course, each health clinic’s medical staff.

In Niger, Plan works closely with communities to ensure they have structures in place and have the training and know how to manage their own local healthcare facility.

Plan makes sure medical staff who treat sponsored children have refresher training courses and also have access to professional development opportunities. At the same time, school teachers are trained in basic first aid and in distributing vitamins and micronutrients to sponsored children.
