“Send my friend to school” plead the children

Plan Niger sponsored children joined hundreds of thousands of children to remind decision-makers that all children should have access to a primary education. As part of the global “Education for All” activities, 7,000 elementary school students from Plan Niger’s Dosso villages signed and submitted letters asking education officials to “send my friend to school".

These pleas were among more than 10,000 letters presented to the region’s governor after a parade of primary and secondary school students through the regional capital. Dosso region demonstrators were one of many groups of students marching in regional capitals across Niger on April 29, which was dubbed “National Commitment Day” for education-related Millennium Development Goals.

Eventually, the tens of thousands of “send my friend to school” letters were forwarded to the Niamey-based Prime Minister who, in front of the National Assembly in Niamey, formally proclaimed his commitment to work toward implementing the suggested actions in support of education for all.
