8,000 children get key supplies and better trained teachers in Tillabery and Dosso

Niger's public school system is being strengthened in sponsored children’s villages as Plan works with the Ministry of Education and local nonprofit organizations. Results to date include:

  • training teachers in improved classroom instruction techniques, including mathematics and French language teaching
  • distributing school supplies to more than 8,000 children in 64 schools in Tillabery and Dosso over the past four years; including notebooks, textbooks, pens, and small individual blackboards for children to practice writing and math
  • raising awareness among village parents about the importance of sending their children – particularly their daughters – to school
  • launching regional competitive athletic programs in 64 Dosso elementary schools to help build self-esteem and physical well-being among the children
