Plan launches campaign against violence on children

The AURA artists members

Plan, in partnership with Artists United for Rap in Africa launched a campaign "POTO-POTO" to promote children’s rights and inform on the problems youth are facing in Africa. Plan Netherlands is financing the campaign.

Started in July 2006 the campaign is focused on a music album whose original title is : « Les histoires extraordinaires des enfants du POTO-POTO »  (The extraordinary stories of the children in POTO-POTO). The album was launched on Monday December 18, and two songs were released from the soundtrack of the musical play which takes place in the mythical POTO-POTO market. The market shelters children of diverse horizons and cultures. These children’s paths cross in POTO-POTO where each of them narrates their story to the others and to adults that they meet.

Concerts given around the whole region will be musical plays showing scenes in the  POTO-POTO market through which people can discover the problems children are facing in Africa. Video clips and a movie of the musical play will come in support to the campaign; as well as books for children and a website.

WHO IS AURA?
AURA emerged from a Pan-African rap artists meeting held in Dakar in February 2005 supported by Plan. The artists in the AURA network come from different countries of the sub-Saharan region. In the album, each of them interprets a child’s role (a child soldier, an HIV-positive child, a girl forced to marry, etc.).
