Learning and Having Fun

In many of Plan Senegal’s program areas, Children’s Clubs are becoming more and more popular. Throughout these rural communities and urban municipalities, these Plan initiatives are giving children the opportunity to fully participate in activities which beforehand they would not have been able to.

By giving children these opportunities they are developing self-esteem as well as their hidden potential.

Being more organized, children get involved in their community’s activities and project planning sessions. This in itself provides a forum for them to express their priorities and concerns.

The clubs allow them to get together and get to know each other better, exchange information and carry out a variety of activities whilst having fun.
These activities range from role plays and dance competitions, to note-taking and writing skills sessions.
They get together on Saturday or Wednesday afternoons after school and are under the supervision of skillful and dynamic youth tutors.

In other words, this is the children’s kingdom; a gate to new horizons.

“We are becoming more open-minded as we learn new things.”

The vision of Children’s Clubs is to increase the number of children and adults aware of the rights of children. Via this process we hope children’s needs and concerns will be taken into consideration in planning processes.

Throughout the whole creation process of these groups, children themselves have participated at different levels. The groups are essentially an attempt to harmonize and extend children’s organizations to cover all Plan intervention areas.

A total of 257 Children’s Clubs span throughout Plans communities, involving many thousands of children.
Many parents in these communities are pleasantly surprised to discover the tremendous potential dormant in their children just waiting to be hatched out.

This short video shows a tie dyeing session performed by young boys and girls of the Medina Fass Mbao Children Club located in the slums of Dakar the only urban intervention of Plan Senegal:
