Radio Gune-Yi

Radio by children, for children

Can you imagine a radio show hosted by children? What would they have to say? The answers to those questions are easy. The children have plenty to say and they're given the opportunity to do so by a Plan Senegal project called Radio Gune-Yi (RGY).

This is a unique radio program for children in West Africa. It is the only regular radio broadcast in Senegal done by children for children.

Set up by Plan in 1995, RGY's objective is to offer Senegal's children the experience of preparing and broadcasting a radio program for their peers, while promoting the Rights of the Child, especially that of freedom of expression.

Programs such as Radio Gune-Yi help children realize that their opinions count and that they are important members of their communities.
