Growing up healthy

Ensuring children’s survival, protection and healthy development

Malaria is one of the biggest killers of children in Senegal. Last year, Plan supported a community initiative aimed at preventing the spread of malaria by helping to supply mosquito nets to families for whom they were either expensive to buy or not readily available.

However, Plan doesn’t just distribute the nets: 113 Plan-trained health committees and women’s groups are responsible for the management of community-based health projects. They monitor stock and the appropriate distribution, as well as giving families advice on how best to use them. They also take responsibility for re-impregnating nets with insecticide every 6 months.
