Water System of Diack Mbodokhane

Diack Mbodokhane water system is now entirely ran and managed by the populations, through a management committee elected by the general assembly of the users under the supervision of local authorities.

Commitee members were trained on the use of management tools.  They are volunteers and are not paid for their work, except for the Secretary, who is responsible for ensuring the bookkeeping and collecting money from users. His monthly salary is about US$ 14.

From resource generated through proper management, Diack Mbodokhane water system covers operating expenses and even is funding other community projects, such as the health hut and the school.

“ The implementation of the water system and the health hut  brought life back into the community, which was threatened by over 20 years of drought, lack of potable water and unavailable health services. Furthermore, by empowering us in water system management, we have reinforced our self-reliance and enabled us to take charge of the development process and make project impact sustainable” , said the president of the Youth Association.

The water system was installed in 1997. It made potable water accessible to 6 villages and currently serves 9,347 people.
