Population coverage increase of 50%

Plan's donation in support to the birth and deaths registry office of Ghana

The minister acknowledged the support of Plan Ghana and other stakeholders whose support has enabled the Registry to improve its coverage from as low as 17% in 2002, to 67% in 2005.

Plan Ghana Country Director Mr. Samuel Paulos proposed that 2007 being a Jubilee year for Ghana, be a year in which parents/guardians are given the opportunity to register their children 0 -18 years free of charge. This would enable the country to mop up the backlog of unregistered children and start 2008 on a clean sheet, which will further greatly assist the National Identification card process that is underway.

The goal of our continued partnership and support for the sector ministry is to help increase coverage nationally to near 100% by the end of 2007 to ensure every child is registered in Ghana especially at community level.
