One common exhibition stand, a photography exhibition by Plan Belgium, a reception to launch a professional spot made by a famous Burkinabè filmmaker, actual registration of 1500 children.

These are the main actions that the regional offices of Plan, UNICEF and the UNFPA in West Africa, and their country offices in Burkina are undertaking to promote universal birth registration (UBR) during the upcoming prestigious Pan African Film and Television Festival (FESPACO).

It is due to be held February 23rd to March 4th in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

Held every two years, the festival which mainly showcases films made by Africans and artists from the African Diaspora and also films from the rest of the world is a unique Public Relations opportunity in Africa, with a record number of world media present.

Considered the second most important public event in Africa after the African football cup, about 4000 film professionals from 80 different countries from all over the world joined thousands of local film enthusiasts in 2005 in the cinema halls to promote, watch, sell, and purchase films.

Plan, the UNFPA and UNICEF have therefore decided as they did in 2005, to promote UBR during this unique event. The outstanding Burkinabè filmmaker and multi award winner Idrissa Ouédraogo is working on a spot to promote UBR. Screening of the spot will precede that of feature films in the main theaters during the whole week. The partners are also seeking avenues to get the spot on TV screens on the continent.
