Cyclone kills 100,000 in Myanmar

Map of Myanmar
Map showing the area devastated by Cyclone Nargis

May 2008: More than 100,000 people have been killed by Cyclone Nargis, which tore through Myanmar on 2 May leaving a trail of destruction.

Plan has already provided US$300,000 of emergency aid to help surviving children and their families.

Much of the Irrawaddy Delta, the rice bowl of Myanmar, is underwater and hundreds of thousands of children are still without food, water, clothing or shelter.

Although Plan has no active programmes in Myanmar it works in most of Myanmar's neighbouring countries and is ideally placed to offer assistance.
