Plan resumes work in Pakistan after attack

28 February 2008: Plan has resumed work in Pakistan 3 days after gunmen attacked its office in Mansehra and left 4 people dead.
All Plan offices in Pakistan were closed after the attack in which 3 staff and 1 community volunteer were killed and a further 2 people seriously injured. All of those killed were Pakistani men.
Security measures
Offices in the capital Islamabad and 2 programme offices in the Punjab have now reopened after a review of the situation and a further tightening of security measures. However, all field work remains suspended.
Operations in Mansehra are still suspended pending further assessments of the local security situation. The Mansehra programme office burned to the ground after attackers set off 3 explosive devices.
Condolences
Tom Miller, Plan’s chief executive officer, said: “I would like to thank the many people who have written to express their condolences for the loss of our staff in the attack on our Mansehra office in Pakistan. All condolence messages will be forwarded to staff in Pakistan.
Plan employs 126 staff in the country, most of them are Pakistani.
The motive for Monday’s attack remains unclear and is being investigated by Pakistani authorities.
